McLean custodian wins P.I.E. Award for customer service

McLean custodian Ramon Martinez wins P.I.E. Award Ramon Martinez, head custodian at McLean Science and Technology Magnet Elementary School, has won the Midwest Single Source Partners in Education Award for providing outstanding customer service in his everyday duties.

Martinez, who was surprised with the award during a school-wide assembly, received 12 nominations, the most of any nominee since the program began two years ago. He was nominated by both staff members and students at McLean.

Principal Cindy Graves said that while Martinez is the school’s head custodian, he does so much more.

“He works had to make connections with students and is always there to greet them in the morning,” Graves said. “He always has a smile and a positive attitude toward staff, parents and students. He takes pride in the way our school looks and even mentors students who need a positive male role model.”

The P.I.E. Awards are a partnership between Wichita Public Schools and Midwest Single Source and awarded each quarter to district employees who promote good customer service and exhibit best practices. Winners also receive a $500 credit from Midwest Single Source.
