All WPS travelers must show their REAL ID or passport if flying after September 30, 2020

All WPS travelers must show their REAL ID or passport if flying after September 30, 2020

All district employees who travel will need to show a REAL ID or passport when checking into their flight after September 30. The district will require proof that employees have a Real ID or passport prior to booking any airline travel that takes place after October 1.

The REAL ID Act was passed to establish a minimum security standard for state-issued driver’s licenses. Anyone 18 years and older will need a REAL ID or passport to fly within the U.S. after September 30.

To obtain a REAL ID, you will need the following information:

  • Proof of your lawful presence in the United States.
This can be a state issued birth certificate, unexpired U.S. passport, unexpired resident card, unexpired employment authorization card, naturalization certificate.
  • Proof of Social Security. A full Social Security Number MUST be visible.
This can be your social security card, a current W-2, 1099, 1040 or a current paystub.
  • Bring 2 forms proving your Kansas residency.
This needs to be an official document stating your name and address. This can be a rent or lease agreement, renewal postcard, vehicle registration, utility bill, financial institution documents such as bank statement, deed or mortgage.
  • Proof of your name change.
If your current name does not match the name on your birth certificate due to adoption, marriage, divorce, court ordered name change, or is not the same on all of your documents, you must provide proof of the name change. Please provide a certified state issued marriage certificate, court ordered divorce decree, legal adoption paperwork or any court ordered or legal name change documents.
  • Bring original documents.
The REAL ID process requires all original or original certified documents of birth certificates, social security cards, marriage licenses, etc.  It does NOT accept photocopies or photos of the documents. Certified vital records can be ordered at https://ikan.ks.gov/
  • It may or may not cost you.
If your license is up for renewal before October 1, 2020, you can get a REAL ID at no charge. If you are not up for renewal before October 1, 2020, it will cost $8.00.
  • Don’t wait until the last minute.
It takes up to five weeks to get your plastic REAL ID sent to you in the mail. You should take all of your proper original paperwork to the DMV by August 1.
