WPS is now offering COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Testing for Staff and Students

The Wichita Public Schools is one of 12 school districts in Kansas selected by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment to be part of a statewide pilot for rapid antigen testing. We have test kits on site that will allow us to make these no-cost tests available to WPS staff and students only between now and December 18, or until the supply runs out. Click here for a fact sheet for details about our intention to offer these tests to symptomatic individuals on a voluntary basis.

There are a couple of important items for you to be aware of:

  • Testing is only for those with symptoms
  • Testing is only for staff and WPS students – no family, no students from other districts, etc.
  • All student tests will come through referrals from school nurses.
  • Staff will be able to call and schedule directly. Additionally, this option will be recommended to all those who report symptoms to the COVID hotline.

Participation in this pilot will enable us to quickly identify positive student and staff cases, quickly identify close contacts in the school environment if there are any, and more quickly allow employees who do not have COVID to be able to return to work.

If you are experiencing COVID symptoms and believe you may qualify for testing in this pilot program, please call (316) 469-3595. The support nurse on call will initiate the screening questionnaire, and if you qualify, will schedule your no-cost test through the drive-up testing location at AMAC.
