Superintendent Presents 2021-22 Safety and Operations Plan

On Wednesday, June 30, Superintendent Thompson presented the Wichita Public Schools 2021-22 Safety and Operations Plan to the Board of Education. The ongoing work of our pandemic leadership team, building leaders, monitoring of current data trends, review of expert guidance, and input from thousands of stakeholders shaped the plan that will ensure our schools continue to be trusted as safe places as our students and staff begin the 2021-22 school year.

Four priority areas are identified in the plan:

  • Healthy learning and work environments – this includes masks becoming optional for all students and staff effective July 6, 2021
  • Learning opportunities
  • Student and partner activities
  • Food service

Specifics on each aspect of the plan are included on the WPS Advance web page and summarized in the document linked at the end of this story. Any updates or modifications to this plan will be posted on the WPS Advance web page. In the coming days, we will also include more detail about recent stakeholder survey results, as well as some helpful FAQs.
