Truesdell rocketry team headed to national competition

Truesdell Middle School rocketry team Truesdell Middle School’s Rocketry Team will compete in the Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC) National Finals outside Washington, D.C. on May 18. Truesdell competed against nearly 900 teams across the United States and finished in the top 25 teams emerging as one of the top 100 teams to qualify for the national competition.

The contest asks students to design and build their own rocket that will climb to 850 feet and stay aloft for 40-45 seconds while carrying two raw eggs inside. The rocket has to return to earth as a connected set using a 15-inch parachute without breaking the eggs.

TARC is aimed at getting students interested in careers in science, math, and technology. The Aerospace Industries Association, the National Association of Rocketry, NASA, the U.S. Department of Defense and the American Association of Physics Teachers sponsor the event.
