WPS seniors win Rudd Scholarships

East High senior Vivian Chau receives a Rudd ScholarshipEight Wichita Public Schools seniors are among 45 Kansas students to receive Rudd Scholarships.

The students are:

  • Vivian Chau, East High School
  • Maimoona Muhammad, Heights High School
  • Adam Bosworth, North High School
  • Jose Urbina Renteria, North High School
  • Israel Torres Ayala, Northeast Magnet High School
  • Deborah Alvarado, Southeast High School
  • Vatedis Coleman, Southeast High School
  • Richard Gwyn, Jr., Southeast High School

The Rudd Scholarship is a renewable, 4-year full-ride scholarship that covers any remaining cost of attendance at Emporia State University, Fort Hays State University, Kansas State University or Wichita State University after all other aid, grants, and scholarships are applied to a student’s account. By removing financial barriers to a college education, chosen scholars are expected to achieve a high level of excellence on campus in preparing themselves to be leaders in their profession and in their communities after graduation.

In addition to living on campus and being enrolled full-time, scholars will also participate in developmental activities outside the classroom, network with leaders in their future professions, build strong relationships among themselves, and serve to help the next generation of scholars through an active and connected alumni association after graduation.
