All-City Honor Concerts showcase Wichita’s finest student musicians
The Wichita Public Schools present the annual All-City Honor Concerts at Century II. These concerts showcase the talents of hundreds of Wichita Public Schools students ranging from grades 5-12 and represent music programs in all of the elementary, middle, and high schools. The concerts, sponsored by Friends University, are free and open to the public.
This year, precautions will be put in place to help reduce the spread of COVID-19. The All-City Honor Bands Concert and the All-City Honor Choirs Concert will divide their performances in order to reduce audience sizes. Masks will be required.
All-City Honor Bands Concert – Monday, January 31, Century II Concert Hall
7th and 8th grade Honor Bands – 7 p.m.
High School Honor Bands – 7:45 p.m.
Jayme Hayes, Director of Bands at Mayberry Cultural and Fine Arts Magnet will conduct the 7th Grade Honor Band. Shannon Dykstra, Director of Bands at Curtis Middle School will conduct the 8th Grade Honor Band. Lisa Brown, Director of Bands at South High School will conduct the 9th and 10th Grade Honor Band and Brett Martinez, Assistant Professor of Instrumental Music at Butler Community College will conduct the 11th and 12th Grade Honor Band.
All-City Honor Orchestras Concert – Tuesday, February 1, 7 p.m., Century II Concert Hall
Dr. Lillian Green, Assistant Professor of Strings at Friends University, will direct the High School Honor Orchestra. Jordon Kaspar, Director of Orchestras at North High School will conduct the 8th Grade Honor Orchestra. Madeline Crawford, Director of Orchestras at Horace Mann and Gordon Parks Academy will conduct the 7th Grade Honor Band.
All-City Honor Choirs Concert – Tuesday, February 22
Elementary Honor Choir – 6 p.m at Century II Convention Hall.
Middle and High School Choirs – 7:30 p.m. at Century II Concert Hall.
Dr. Rayvon Moore, Director of Choral Studies at Friends University will conduct the High School Honor Choir. Anthony Caldera, Director of Choirs at Marshall Middle School and Logan Caywood, Director of Choirs at Stucky Middle School, will co-conduct the Middle School Honor Choir. Sonya Maxwell, music teacher at Gammon Elementary; Linda Hoobler, music teacher at Kensler Elementary; Tiffany Peterson, music teacher at Woodman Elementary and Ashley Reichenborn, music teacher at Buckner Performing Arts and Science Maget, will conduct the 5th Grade Honor Choir.
These concerts offer students a rare opportunity to perform with other district student musicians under the direction of distinguished guest conductors and some of our most outstanding local teachers.
