Eight WPS schools compete in Shocker Mindstorms Challenge

Bostic Robotic Team Eleven teams representing eight schools competed in the Shocker Mindstorms Challenge held at Wichita State University on March 30. Students created robots with Lego Mindstorms kits and programed them to complete different obstacle courses. The obstacle courses had four difficulty levels, Beginner, Beginner II, Intermediate and Expert.

Bostic’s “Hal 9000” team won first place in the Beginner category, along with Best Interview and Best Notebook. Christa McAuliffe Academy’s “Some Assembly Required” team won first place in the Beginner II category. Gammon’s “Stormy Knights” team won first place in the Expert category. Mueller's "RoboJets" team won 4th place in the Beginner category and McLean's "Darthbots" team won 4th place in the Beginner II category.

Other teams that competed included Cloud, Jardine and Mayberry.

The Mindstorms Challenge, sponsored by WSU’s Colleges of Engineering and Education, encourages students to get hands-on learning using STEM (science, technology, engineering and math).
