WPS breakfast programs receive state recognition

Second chance breakfast program at North High School Wichita Public Schools’ breakfast programs have been recognized by the Kansas State Department of Education for outstanding practices in Child Nutrition and Wellness programs that help support the Kansans Can vision.

Last school year, average daily participation for breakfast rose 36 percent across 18 schools that implemented an alternative breakfast delivery model, meaning an additional 1,500 meals were served to students. The same schools saw a 24 percent decrease in tardiness as a result of the breakfast programs.

The Wichita Public Schools has also recognized by the national campaign No Kid Hungry as a winner of the 2019 Breakfast Hero contest for its innovative breakfasts. Learn more here.
