January is School Board Appreciation Month, a time to thank our board members for their support of public education.

The Board of Education consists of seven members elected to four-year terms. Six of the board members must live in six specific geographic districts, while the seventh can live anywhere in the district at large. They are volunteer (non-paid) positions. The Board of Education is the governing, policy-making body that sets the vision, mission and goals of the district. BOE members make decisions on matters relating to public education and also hire the superintendent.

Our BOE members are visible throughout the district, visiting schools, advocating on behalf of public education, and representing the district throughout the community.

The meetings will be available to watch on the Wichita Public Schools’ YouTube channel the following day. The meetings are rebroadcast on WPS-TV Cox Cable Channel 20 and WPS-TV online as follows:
Tuesdays at 12:30 and 6:30 p.m.
Wednesdays at 8 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.
Fridays at 2 a.m.
Saturdays at 2 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Sundays at 2 a.m. and 2 p.m.
